Dual Enrollment Program
Penn State Beaver, Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) and Clarion University

For the past several years, Freedom Area High School has received Dual Enrollment funds from the state which allow Juniors and Seniors to enroll in a college course at Community College of Beaver County (CCBC), Clarion University's online courses or Penn State Beaver. The Dual Enrollment Program was a state-supported, locally controlled partnership between districts and higher education institutions in which eligible students receive both high school credit and college credit for satisfactorily completing non-remedial college courses. The intent is to increase the number of students that go on to postsecondary education and to decrease the need for remedial coursework at postsecondary institutions. Unfortunately, state funding for the Dual Enrollment program has been cut from the Pennsylvania state budget. The good news, Freedom Area High School continues to allow students to participate in Dual Enrollment, however, students and/or parents will be responsible for tuition, fees and books. The Dual Enrollment Program is an excellent opportunity for students to get a “jump start” to learn more about post-secondary school expectations. Most credits are transferable; however, students and/or parents are responsible to share the information to the post-secondary schools they will attend once they graduate.   Penn State Beaver, Clarion University and Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) continue to offer the Dual Enrollment program for juniors and seniors:
·

Penn State Beaver offers the “Jump Start” program for juniors and seniors who have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or a combined SAT1 critical reading and math score of 1,000 to be eligible for this program. Please click HERE to learn more about courses offered.  Please click HERE for information on "How to Enroll" in a Dual Enrollment course. Penn State Beaver Offers a discount of 75% off the cost of tuition.
·
CCBC’s criteria includes a QPA of 2.5 or higher is recommended, submit SAT or ACT scores if taken and provide a letter of recommendation from your high school guidance counselor or principal. Please click HERE  to learn more about CCBC’s Dual Enrollment Program.

Clarion Unversity's criteria includes a GPA of 3.0 cumulative grade point average (85 percent) or top 20 percent of the class. SAT of at least 950 (CR & M) or ACT of 20. Please click HERE  for more information, the application and list of online courses.

In addition, Freedom Area High School and CCBC have a partnership for the College in the High School Program. Seniors have the option to take their English and History courses as CCBC College courses taught at the high school by Freedom’s Secondary teachers. The cost is only $150.00 a course.
